Bollywood director Apoorva Lakhia will be directing Ram Charan Tej’s hindi debut movie Zanjeer 2. The original version in early 70s was produced and directed by Prakash Mehra with Amitabh Bachchan in lead. Now Prakash’s son Amit Mehra, Reliance Entertainment and Eros Ram Mirchandani are jointly producing this latest version. The original script will be modified to suit the tastes of present generation. Chiran Bhatt (cousin of vikram bhatt) will compose music for this movie. This will not be a remake but it will be a sequel of original Zanjeer(1973).
Producers are planning to make this a bilingual in hindi and telugu with a budget of Rs.70 crores and shooting is planned to start in late 2012 after charan completes his telugu movie commitments. Apoorva Lakhia worked as an assistant director for Ashutosh Gowariker’s period epic film Lagaan(2001), Once Upon a Time in India and as second assistant director for the film Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996). He had been an assistant for Hollywood films such as The Ice Storm, A Perfect Murder and Addicted to Love. He made his debut as a film director with the 2002 film Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost. His second film Ek Ajnabee released in 2005 which starred Amitabh Bachchan in the leading role was a remake of the Hollywood film Man on Fire. His third film Shootout at Lokhandwala which has a multi-star cast released on 25 May 2007 and was based on real-life events involving the underworld gangsters Maya Dolas and Dilip Buwa. In late 2007 he directed a short story titled Sex on the Beach for the anthology film Dus Kahaniyaan. His next film was Mission Istanbul and he also wrote story of Hide & Seek (2009), which is directed Shawn Aranha.
